Servsafe Food Protection Manager Exam
Please review these instructions in order to take your ServSafe Manager Exam with an online proctor through ProctorU. And please be sure you have the exam access code sent to you in your purchase confirmation email or given to you by your instructor on the day of your scheduled exam session.
schedule YOUR EXAM:
Step 1: Create a ProctorU account (the website will open in a new window). ServSafe will be pre-populated as your Institution. Once you set up your ProctorU account, check your email and follow the directions to confirm your account. | |
Step 2: Once inside your ProctorU account, click on "Schedule New Session" to schedule your Exam. Make sure the selected institution is ServSafe, choose "ServSafe Manager" for the Term, choose your exam, then click on "Find Sessions." You will need 2.5 hours to launch and take the exam on the day of your session. | |
Step 3: View Minimum System Requirements and test your equipment on the PC or Mac computer that you plan to take your exam on. Tablets and mobile devices are not supported. | |
Step 4: Download the latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Download the ProctorU Extension on Chrome or Firefox. |
BEFORE YOUR EXAM:
One to two days before your scheduled exam, please be sure to review ProctorU's Exam Readiness Guide and test the equipment you plan to use the day of your exam. Also, watch ProctorU's Pre-Exam Checklist video so you know what to expect on exam day.
DAY OF YOUR EXAM:
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace. You must be in a private location with a clean desk area. You must also remove headphones, non-religious headwear, and smartwatches. You may not sit on a couch or overstuffed chair. A kitchen or office chair is acceptable. Additional information regarding the process and workplace requirements are available here.
Step 2: Have your ID ready. You must have a government-issued or school ID to verify your identity.
Step 3: Log in to ProctorU. Approximately 20 minutes prior to your scheduled exam time, log in to your ProctorU account.
Step 4: Download software. Follow the prompts as directed to download the required software, which will allow ProctorU access to your system and to record the exam session and assess your computer and internet connection.
Step 5: Connect to proctor. The system will connect you to a proctor via live chat who will supervise you during your exam using your computer screen, camera and microphone. They will guide you step-by-step in the start-up process, which includes verifying your identity and securing your testing location.
Step 6: Log in to ServSafe. Follow the Proctor's instructions to login as directed. Make sure you have your ServSafe.com login and password, and your Exam Access Code ready.
Step 7: Enter secure link. The proctor will enter the following secure link in your browser: https://www.servsafe.com/ss/Exams/ProctorU/TakePUOnlineExam.aspx.
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not use the correct secure link, you will get an "Invalid access code" error. If you see this error, please confirm with your proctor that you are using the correct link. Or copy and paste this link into your browser after logging in to ServSafe.com.
Step 8: Make selections. Select the exam version and language.
Step 9: Enter exam access code. Accept the Examinee Test User Agreement by selecting 'I accept.' Enter the exam access code (from your purchase confirmation email or provided by your instructor) and click the 'continue' button. The exam access code will include all capital letters and dashes and will start with SSMPU. Your proctor will allow you to open your email to copy and paste the code directly into the Exam Access Code field. Make sure there are no extra spaces at the beginning or periods at the end. Then click on Continue.
PLEASE NOTE: If you receive an "Invalid access code" error, please confirm that you or your proctor used the correct secure link (https://www.servsafe.com/ss/Exams/ProctorU/TakePUOnlineExam.aspx) after logging into your ServSafe.com account. Note: The link to the ServSafe Canadian Exam through ProctorU is (https://servsafeinternational.com/exams/proctoru/myonlinecenterpu.aspx).
Step 10: Complete personal info. Complete the Examinee Personal Information page. Select your company, school, or organization from the list in the pop-up window. If you don't find your company or school choose "ServSafe ProctorU."
Step 11: Proctor enters code. The Proctor will enter their Proctor Access Code so you can start the exam.
- You will have 2 hours to complete your exam.
- Once you have answered all the questions, you will be able to review your answers on the "Answer Review" screen before you submit your exam for grading.
- To submit your exam for grading, click SUBMIT.
- You'll receive a pass/fail notification, the proctor will end the exam session and you'll receive official notification of your results via email. You can view your exam results by logging into ServSafe.com and clicking on SCORES in the upper right of ServSafe.com.
After the Exam:
- If you pass: You will be able to print your official ServSafe Food Protection Manager certificate immediately after you complete the exam. Simply log on to ServSafe.com, click on the CERTIFICATES in the upper right of the website, and click on VIEW OR PRINT CERTIFICATE.
- If you fail: If you do not pass your exam, you may schedule another exam following our Retesting policy. You will need to purchase another exam access code.
- Our retesting policy states an examinee may take the exam the first two times within a 30-day period, if necessary. If three or more attempts are required, the examinee must wait at least 60 days from their last attempt. No more than four attempts are allowed in a 12-month period.
